Too expensive to play in teams????I don't think that the £20 up front per player registration will work. It's fairer if it's added to the match fees. Players who may not play all season won't pay it.
For those who don't know, it costs about £100 per team to register for the league and supply the balls. In the past this cost was covered by sponsorship, but not this year.
So each team has to generate an extra £100.
Also court fees have gone up, and I don't know about meal costs.
So using the Mens first team as an example.
Registration & balls £100
8 home matches (7 courts each) £248
match meals @ £4 per head £320
Total £668
That works out at a minimum of £8.35 match fee.
By the time you've allowed for cancelled matches/ cup matches etc., and the food may go up - we're looking at minimum £9 but probably £10 match fee.
Other teams may be a bit cheaper if they book less courts.

Perhaps that's why some of us are playing racketball. Only £3 match fee, as there are no registrationm fees and we only have bar nibbles for food.

Team FeesI have booked the courts and meals for the Vets 2 up until Christmas. The food (hot food, not just nibbles) is £4.50 per head.Match fees will have to reflect this. [/b]

Match FeesI agree a tenner plus beer money could equate to quite an expensive evening's sport and social but we have to bear in mind that we only have a MINIMAL annual membership fee compared to some clubs. Fair Oak is about £150 p.a. and they are still paying over a fiver each match fee.
Over the course of a season, it probably evens itself out, we may even come out ahead!

TSS - Glad that you're on board.
You're the first to book the food, so you've set the level. Last year £4, now £4.50. So match fees have to go up, unless sponsors can be found.
Here's a suggestion: captain's could charge more (£10?) for home matches and less (£8?) for away ones.!
For the men's teams, we should encourage juniors to play if they want to, but at the same cost as seniors (if they/parents can afford it), after all they do have their own junior league!!!!!!!!!!!!
Captains need to know that they must cover ALL of the costs: Registratons fees, Balls, Courts Fees, Food, and build in a bit (10%) to allow for Cup matches and the team that cancels their home fixture!!!
It's very simple:
IF PLAYERS AREN'T COMMITTED TO A TEAM AND PREPARED TO PAY, THEN THEY DON'T PLAY.
Keep the Captain's lives easy.

I have to agree with Richard. Everyone pays one way or another whatever club they play for.
I aslo think £20 up front is fair – We are used to paying it and the vast majority of team players are committed to the season.

Team Costsin the previous season the teams were sponsored, so the balls and registration fees were paid for by sponsorship, not by the team members. This season, there is no team sponsorship which inevitably means an uncomfortable return to reality as these costs have to be recovered from the players.
I have not ordered the balls yet, we could economise by ordering fewer.(I bet that suggestion goes down like a lead balloon!)
We have to get this right (as with other things in the club, like club night and junior coaching) because we do not have the luxury of healthy surplus in the clubs bank account, which has been the case over the last couple of years.
(I had my treasurer hat on for that last bit)
kind regards
Adrian. [/b]

Team feesMyself and Bill (Acting 3rd team Cpt) have only booked 5 courts for each home match, this should reduce our fees for matches to around £8.00, not much of a reduction, but should be easier on the juniors and multi team players. However we might just be stealing a clubnight court on the odd home night.
